Another Installment of "My Favorite Things"

Last year, I did an entry about my favorite products of 2009. I decided to do it again for this year. Granted, I've never checked out any of Oprah's favorites lists before, so I don't know what kind of items (or the cost of them), but I figure my list should be pretty down to earth. A list for the common person.

1. Seneca Apple Chips: These are an easy item to find in your grocery store. The Kroger I shop at stocks them with the refrigerated pre-made salads and dried fruits. My favorite flavor of these are the cara
2. Terra Exotic Vegetable Chips: For bagged chips, these are a little pricey, but ohhhhhhh, so worth it! Taro, Sweet Potato, Yuca, Batata, Parsnip, and Ruby Taro make for some really good chips. The trick is to buy them at a place like BJ's or Costco: $6.99 for a large bag, compared to about $4.99 at Kroger for a smaller bag. Unfortunately, these seem to settle a lot more in the bag, compared to other potato chips.
3. Gourmet Garden herb tubes: I will never go back to fresh or dried herbs again! These little tubes need to be refrigerated but they last longer than fresh herbs and taste completely fresh. I think the trick must be to make the herbs into a paste so they keep some moisture. Their basil is to die for and their cilantro has the most wonderful, distinctive scent.

Okay, just so you know, this list isn't entirely food!

4. T-Fal One Egg Wonder: Even though it's called the "One Egg" Wonder, this little pan actually cooks up two eggs easily with room to spare. I've never been very good at flipping eggs. Even though this is a non-stick mini pan, all I need to do is give it a quick spray with non-stick spray (I need all the help I can get, okay?) and eggs flip over and out with the greatest of ease with even a narrow spatula.

Now, we can move out of the kitchen!

5. MidSummer's Night by Yankee Candle: When my husband and I got married, part of the gift we received from an aunt and uncle of mine was two MidSummer's Night votives and a pair of glass votive holders. I hadn't smelled this particular scent before, but I had heard of Yankee Candle. "An intoxicating and masculine blend of musk, patchouli, sage and mahogany cologne." Yep, it smells like a man's cologne. We received those candles 12 years ago, and even though they have long since been burned away to nothing, this scent continues to be my favorite. I have two of the jar candles sitting away to be burned later on!
6. Trek Pure bicycle: The picture of this bike on Trek's website does not do it justice. It's actually more beach cruiser-ish in design. The seven speed bike my husband bought me for my birthday this year is robin's egg blue with white stripes along the frame, a two-tone leather seat and matching leather hand grips. It's got a very retro look about it. The beach cruiser design doesn't ride as fast as other bikes and I've been told it doesn't do as well riding on rougher terrain, but why would it? It's not a mountain bike.

I also like this bike for the fact that it seems to allow me (or maybe push me) to ride with better, straighter posture. I've added a headlight and rear light to it, as well as a small mirror on the left hand side. It's a great bike!
7. Windshield Wonder: In the commercial, this seems like just another hokie "as seen on TV" product, but it really isn't. This sucker actually works! I bought one for my husband. His truck's windshield gets fogged over and condensation on the inside like nothing I've ever seen before. He had to keep a rag in his console to wipe it away so he could see clearly, and to make it manageable, he'd have to run the AC during the summer with the windows open.

So I suggested one of these. I picked it up at Walgreens for $10. He's only needed it two times since buying it, because that little green shammy head works so well! And amazingly enough, regular tap water sprayed on that head really is all you need to clean your windshield. It worked as well as the Armour All glass cleaner he likes.

So there you go...another edition of My Favorite Things is all wrapped up. Happy shopping and hope you've got some products from this year that you'd like to share as well.
