Some More Pretties From The Garden

I just planted these bulbs earlier this spring. It was a mixed bag of these and Stargazer lilies. These are Strawberries and Cream lilies. Since they are a hybrid, I think I can reasonably expect 4-5 years of good blooms out of them, However, they aren't nearly as tall as my original Stargazer lilies were/ Those suckers got about 4' tall. These guys were only 1' tall this year.

Received My Mini Art Quilt And a Quick Blanket

I received my mini art quilt from StickerChic87!

She actually quilted R2-D2 into a quilt! Isn't this the most adorable little thing you've ever seen? She included three loops on the back for hanging (time to get a dowel this weekend).

This really made me happy. Which wasn't a small feat. My mother-in-law just recently passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack. After my time back home had come to an end, I spent 1 1/2 days trying to find a flight to come home on, with my standby ticket. Nothing was working. All the flights I was eligible for were oversold. On Wednesday, I was there for 12 hours straight.

My friend Michelle was taking care of our house and cat while we were gone back home. She texted me that a package had arrived for me. By the way she described the package, I knew what it was. I emailed StickerChic and the swap moderator and told them I couldn't make an updated post right now, so I suggested that StickerChic go ahead and post any photos she had of the quilt because I was a couple days away from seeing it in person.

When StickerChic posted the above photo, I saw it while goofing off with my laptop at the airport. For some reason, I guess from being really emotional over our family's loss, I got all teary eyed when I saw this little R2-D2 quilt. It means a lot to me.

I figured I'd be doing a fair amount of riding in the car and on the plane, of course, so as I was packing in a frenzy, I had enough sense of mind to throw three skeins of yarn and a crochet hook into my bag.

I don't even have the labels for this yarn anymore, so I don't know the company or color, just that there are two colors here, which were very similar in tone.

Obviously, this is a granny square blanket, probably just over three wide, made with an H sized crochet hook and finished off with a picot edge. I would have preferred to do the edging in a different color, but I wasn't going to insist on a trip to Wal-Mart to try and get one more skein. This was supposed to be a travel stashbuster project, so I kept as just a simple acrylic yarn blanket.

When I started it, I didn't have much of a purpose in mind for it. My husband suggested giving it to his step-uncle and his wife. They had just become grandparents three weeks before. I thought that was a great idea, and it was the first time I had ever met them. It was well received.

So thank you StickerChic, for a wonderful quilt. And thank you to Jeanie, for being a wonderful mother-in-law to me, and a wonderful mother to my husband. We miss you.
