A Good Valentine's Day

When I came in the back door of our house tonight after work and walked into the kitchen, I could smell something good in the oven. My husband cooked supper for me tonight, because we knew the restaurants would be too busy to try and get into.

What did he make? Something he came up with himself that he called...Mac and Cheese Empanadas. :)

  • 1 box of your favorite mac and cheese (we had white cheddar)--cooked according to the directions on the box
  • bacon slices, crumbled and mixed in with the mac and cheese
  • 1 tube of  Pilsbury buttermilk biscuits
  • shredded cheese
  • a couple slices of cheese, cut into fourths
Flatten out the biscuits into kind of an elongated circle. Spoon in a little of the mac and cheese/bacon mixture on one side of the biscuit, top with some shredded cheese and seal them shut tightly. Bake according to the directions on the can. Remove from oven and top with a bit of the sliced cheese and bake again for 1-2 minutes more.

It was a nice Valentine's Day. What did you do today?

Neil deGrasse Tyson Is the Man!

I love these super smart guys, like Neil deGrasse Tyson, that are geeks about their professions and love what they do without being patronizing to those of us that aren't as educated.

"Apparently Neil deGrasse Tyson decided to go ahead and crunch the numbers and tell us just how heavy Thor’s Hammer would be if it was indeed forged within a collapsing star – in elephants. According to his calculations, it would weigh as much as 300 billion elephants – now there’s a unit of weight that physicists should consider using more often."

For those of you not familiar with Neil deGrasse Tyson, he's an astrophysicist and science communicator. He is currently the Frederick P. Rose Director of the Hayden Planetarium at the Rose Center for Earth and Space and a research associate in the department of astrophysics at the American Museum of Natural History. Sounds like a pretty big deal, right? Yep, but he's also been on "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report," as well as "The Big Bang Theory," as himself in season four, where we learned of Dr. Sheldon Cooper's anger at him for voting to de-planetize Pluto.
I love geeks. Remember when it wasn't en vogue to be one? I wonder how long this will last.

Learn From My Mistakes

When you go to the thrift store to buy a throw pillow to reuse the stuffing, make sure it actually has the kind of stuffing you want before you leave with it. I buy throw pillows secondhand because the stuffing is cheaper that way, and it's easier to find throw pillows at the thrift store than a bag of Fiber Fill at Wal-Mart anymore.

Tonight, I realized I didn't know what I was getting the other day, when I cut open the pillow and found it stuffed with feathers. Even after washing and drying the pillow, the feathers really did feel like Fiber Fill. Now, my crafting room looks like Colonel Sanders went all Leatherface on some poor chickens up here!

Next, My Little Ponies are evil. Or, the homemade Ponies are evil.

I have tried three times to follow Voodoo Tiki's MLP pattern on Deviant Art, and I still can't get the damn thing right! Each time, I've made the pattern bigger, thanks to Publisher, but it still comes out with a ginormous head. It ends up looking like a deformed baby Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer!

I don't know if it's me or not, but like the crocheted cupcake hat mess I went through a little over two years ago, I AM DONE with this failed project. :)

So, I'll clean up my mess up here, take the dog for a walk, and then come back to try and make a new Foofa for my niece. Foofa got washed a few days ago and didn't survive the washer. Since then, Eden has been walking around, asking for her back. My sister told her that Foofa had to go to the doctor for a little bit and requested a new one ASAP. I've got the material here, but I think I'll need to buy more stuffing for it!
