The Lilies Are Greening

You almost can't see them, but my lilies are just now showing up above ground! This makes me wildly happy. I'm pretty sure these are going to be my stargazer lilies, but I can't remember for sure.

I even called a tree service today for advice on the Dwarf Alberta Spruce tree that we planted last year, in memory of Shane's mom. One side of it keeps turning brown and dry. He said June is a bad time to plant a tree, or there could have been something wrong with it from the get-go. Either way, I'm going to have to dig it up this weekend and return it to Home Depot. Actually, I'm going to exchange it for something else. Thankfully, I still have our receipt and they offer a one year warranty on their plants and trees.

What Blew My Mind Today

This is a guy. His name is Elio and he's got a killer cosplay of punk Storm. Isn't he completely beautiful? Marvel Studios needs to can Halle and hire Elio to be their newest Storm. According to their Twitter account, Mike and Elio are, "Type A personality. Costuming couple. Gamers, collectors." Wow, I just saw a photo of Elio as the Dark Phoenix on their FB page...AWESOME!!!!!!

And yes, this is completely dead on, in case you were wondering about punk Storm.

"In Uncanny X-Men #173, October 1983, a notable move was made by changing Storm's costume and appearance. Writer Claremont and artist Paul Smith created a new look, abandoning her old costume for black leather top and pants, and changing her former veil of white hair into a punk Mohawk. In a 2008 interview, Smith regretted the change as "a bad joke gone too far ... I knew that they were going to cut the hair, so as a joke I put a Mr. T mohawk on her ... [editor] Louise Simonson said 'We're gonna get hung [sic] no matter what we do, so let's commit the crime!' So we went with the Mohawk ... But once you get into the whole leather and stud thing it was a bad joke that got way out of hand."

See, I never thought the mohawk and leather was a weird look on Storm. This was 1983. At the beginning of the 80's, the punk music era was still going on. " An associated punk subculture emerged, expressing youthful rebellion and characterized by distinctive styles of clothing and adornment and a variety of anti-authoritarian ideologies." Although maybe from the time frame and black leather, Storm was more post-punk than regular punk.

Either way, Elio is rocking this not very often seen version of Storm in cosplay and I just love it!
