Anyhoo, while this con was going on, a second con was being held at the same time, for the first time: Fursonacon. I think last year's ROFCON was a way to really feel out the local furry community to see what kind of interest there would be for their own con. Their turn out seemed pretty good, and whatever interaction the two groups had, well, I have a new found respect for furries. They're just having fun like anyone else.
Once again, I was with the Rebel Legion group. The "Star Wars" celebrity this year was John Morton. He played Dak, Luke's gunner in the snow speeder in The Empire Strikes Back, was a double for Jeremy Bulloch as Boba Fett, and was even one of the three performers inside the Jabba the Hutt puppet/costume. I wouldn't have known who he was by his name or appearance, so I didn't get an autograph or photo with him. He seems like a good guy though. He spent a lot of time just chatting with the fans, the 501st members and the Rebel Legion though.
This year, ROFCON was held in a different venue. I think the group in charge really should have rethought how they were going to lay things out. There was so much unused space in the vendor hall. I would have done some rearranging. I also wouldn't have had Artists' Alley tucked away in a panel room. I would have brought them into the vendor hall. It would have seemed more inviting and I'm sure people would have liked to watch them work.
And as a way to fill some of that dead space, I would have gotten more interaction between the ROFCON group and the Fursonacon group. Get more the vendors together. We don't need to be completely separated by con-type.
Because of the changes, and maybe the crappy weather, I couldn't help but notice how DEAD the vendor hall seemed on Sunday. Hell, we started packing up the Rebel Legion gear early on Sunday. The mass exodus out of there, starting at 4 PM reminded me of the old Tasmanian Devil cartoons. You know how he goes spinning through the forest and all the other animals go hauling ass out of there to get away from him? It was kind of like that.
It was even quieter on Saturday than it was last year.
There were a good number of Reys and Kylo Rens in attendance.
Me and my new furry friend. It spoke by miming and squeaking the toy it carried.
This was an interesting costume. I wasn't sure what it was, and it didn't communicate with me at all. it really didn't match the rest of the furries, because this one looks so much more stark and less friendly than the others.
